This report includes Capital Improvement Projects in progress as well as work done under permits issued by Pima County. (Please contact federal, state, city or town agencies for information on work within their jurisdiction.)

While through traffic is permitted at most sites, motorists should use caution and observe traffic control signs and flaggers.  Please find alternate routes when possible to avoid congestion.  Road closures will be noted when applicable.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS:

 

4TSTAR

SOUTH 12th AVENUE44th STREET GATEWAY (PHASE II):

 

Scope:  Reconstructing the intersection of 12th Avenue and 44th Street to provide improved intersection capacity, improved drainage facilities and revitalization of open space.  The work includes, but not limited to, removing existing structures including concrete curb and concrete/asphalt pavements, providing construction traffic control and installing new facilities including curb, pavement, traffic signals, storm drains, utilities, hardscape, landscape, art and other incidental work.

ŸNotice to Proceed: July 14, 2006                        · Estimated Completion Date:  Summer 2007

 

Current Status:  In landscape establishment phase for 1 year completion date of May 14, 2008.

Projected Activities:  Landscape establishment phase started on May 14, 2007.

RIVER RD.: CAMPBELL AVE. TO ALVERNON BLVD.

 

Scope: Widening and re-aligning the roadway from Campbell to Alvernon. Installing drainage culverts, storm drains and the construction of two new traffic signals. This project includes the construction of a new bridge at the Rillito River on the new alignment. Other work includes, curb, gutter, sidewalk, paving and landscaping.

 

· Contractor:  The Ashton Company, Inc.               · Bid Amount: $16,216,153.56

· Notice to Proceed: May 16, 2005                        · Estimated Completion Date: Summer 2007

 

Current Status:  Roadway construction is complete. Decomposed granite pathway will require warranty work by the contractor. Project in 1 year landscape establishment period. 

 

Projected Activities: Contractor will be maintaining landscape for the next year.

CRAYCROFT ROAD / SUNRISE DRIVE:  INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS

 

Scope:  The project, (GMP-1) (Gross Maximum Price), includes the reconstruction of the Sunrise/Craycroft Intersection. The improvements include additional through and turning capacity, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, new traffic signalization and lighting, drainage improvements, and utility modifications. The project, (GMP-2), for widening of Craycroft Road between the Rillito River and Sunrise Drive will include sewer modifications, water improvements and modifications, retaining walls, drainage improvements, surfacing, landscaping, signing and striping, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, new traffic signalization and lighting and public art.

·  Notice to proceed:  GMP-2 December 12, 2005   · Estimated Completion Date:  Winter 2008

 

Current Status:  Sunrise and Craycroft intersection is open to two lanes of traffic in each direction.  River and Craycroft intersection was opened to all traffic on Friday 1/4/08.  Craycroft between Sunrise and River is complete and all lanes are open.

 

Projected Activities: Continue working on landscape, handrail, and miscellaneous, punch list items.

VALENCIA ROAD (MISSION ROAD TO I-19):

 

Scope:  The project consists of widening approximately 1.5 miles of Valencia between Mission and I-19 by adding an additional travel lane and multi-use lane to the existing PCCP (Portland Cement Concrete Paving) on both sides of roadway.  The project includes signals, concrete pavement, retaining wall, storm drain, landscaping, public art, intersection improvements, bus pullouts, street lighting, etc.

 

· Contractor:  Meridian Engineering Company             · Bid Amount:  $8,670,706.20

· Notice to proceed:  September 15, 2006                   · Estimated Completion Date:  Fall 2007

 

Current Status:  Project is complete except for the landscape establishment period which is one year.  All lanes are open to the traveling public.

 

Projected Activities:  Continue working maintenance of landscape.

COUNTRY CLUB ROAD (MILBER STREET – 36TH STREET):

 

Scope:  The work consists of constructing a five lane urban collector roadway with a two-way left turn lane from Milber Street to just South of Ajo Way and a three lane urban collector roadway with a two-way left turn lanes from just North of Ajo Way to just South of the intersection of 36th Street.  The total length of Country Club Road to be built under this project is 1.38 miles.  The work also consists of earthwork, storm drain system, cross drainage structures, a new bridge over the Tucson Diversion Channel, aggregate base, asphaltic concrete courses, concrete curb, concrete sidewalks, pavement markings and related incidental work.

 

· Contractor:  The Ashton Company                         · Bid Amount:  $7,691,677.40

· Notice to proceed:  November 13, 2006                · Estimated Completion Date:  Spring 2008

 

Current Status:  Country Club from Milber to 36th Street and the Country Club bridge over the Tucson Diversion Channel are open to traffic.  The contractor is working on, punch list, and landscaping.  All businesses are open in the area and their access is being maintained. 

 

Projected Activities:  Punch list is complete and landscape establishment is in effect.

SANTA CRUZ BANK PROTECTION  (INA – CORTARO FARMS):

 

Scope:  The work consists of construction of approximately 6,545 linear feet of soil-cement bank protection along the west bank of the Santa Cruz River between Cortaro Farms Road and Ina Road. The work includes drainage excavation, construction of embankment, manufacturing and placement of soil-cement bank protection, installation of hand railing, and related incidental work to repair adjacent failed soil cement area just north of original site. New scope has been added to repair damaged sections of bank protection North of Cortaro Bridge at the Santa Cruz River.

 

· Contractor:  The Ashton Company                        · Bid Amount:  $4,592,305.11

· Notice to proceed:  December 18, 2006               · Estimated Completion Date:  Summer 2007

 

Current Status:  The contractor has completed work on the entire project.

Projected Activities:  The project is complete and has been accepted.

 

 

4VMCLT

 

 VALENCIA ROAD (MARK TO CAMINO DE LA TIERRA):

 

Scope:  The project consists of increasing West Valencia Road from Mark Road to Camino De La Tierra to two eleven foot travel lanes in each direction with twelve foot continuous turn lanes to the middle of the roadway, six foot paved shoulders with four foot graded shoulders (no outside curbs), and five foot pedestrian paths to both sides.  Shoulders will be landscaped, vertical alignment will be altered, and curbed medians will enhance safety at the two signalized intersections.  The work consists of earthwork, construction of side drainages, installation of pipe culverts, furnishing and placing aggregate base and asphaltic concrete, constructing concrete medians, concrete sidewalk, pavement marking and signing, and related incidental work.

 

· Contractor:  Granite Construction Company          · Bid Amount:  $12,992,992.00

· Notice to proceed:  January 22, 2007                    · Estimated Completion Date:  Spring 2008

 

Current Status:  The contractor has all lanes open and access to all businesses is maintained at all times.

 

Projected Activities:  Contractor is working on striping, signing, landscape and punch list items.

 

 

4MTLMS

 

MT. LEMMON PUBLIC WORKS IMPROVEMENTS:

 

Scope:  The work is located in the Town of Summer Haven and consists of constructing a new section of paved roadway lanes and shoulders, paved parking lot for the community center, pipe arch, utility relocation, drainage improvements and other incidental work.  All businesses are open in the area.  Access is maintained to all businesses.

 

· Contractor:  Hunter Contracting Company            · Bid Amount:  $2,098,962.38

· Notice to proceed:  April 17, 2007                        · Estimated Completion Date:  Summer 2007

 

Current Status:  Roadway completed.  All businesses are open in the area, parking available and business access is maintained.

 

Projected Activities: Contractor to complete the punch list items related to sewer line work.

 

 

5AJCSD

AJO DETENTION BASIN CURLEY SCHOOL:

 

Scope:  This project is located in the Town of Ajo, Arizona, on an old athletic field west of the historic Curley School.  The project consists of the excavation of a detention basin; over-excavating and compacting earthen embankments, construction of concrete spillways, gabion and slope mattress inlet and outlet structures, and other associated work and necessary to complete the project as shown in the construction drawings and special provisions.

 

· Contractor:  Rummell Construction Inc.                   · Bid Amount:  $851,461.70

· Notice to proceed:  February 4, 2008                      · Estimated Completion Date:  Summer 2008

 

Current Status: Contractor has been given construction acceptance as of May 1, 2008.

 

Projected Activities: Contractor has completed the project and is maintaining landscape for 6 months as of May 1, 2008.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PERMIT:     PERMIT WORK IN PROGRESS

Note: In any given month, there are between 300 and 500 permits issued for work in the public right-of-way.  The permitted projects listed above are those permits of a longer duration that impact the traveling public on major roadways.
