This report includes Capital Improvement Projects in progress as well as work done under permits issued by Pima County. (Please contact federal, state, city or town agencies for information on work within their jurisdiction.)

While through traffic is permitted at most sites, motorists should use caution and observe traffic control signs and flaggers.  Please find alternate routes when possible to avoid congestion.  Road closures will be noted when applicable.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECTS:

SAHUARITA AND HOUGHTON ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS:

 

Scope: The project will reconstruct and widen approximately 3,600 feet of Sahuarita Road and 2,500 feet of Houghton Road in the vicinity of the intersection.  Widening Improvements on approach to the intersection will include raised concrete median and islands, additional through and right turn lanes, and double left turn lanes.

RIVER ROAD: CAMPBELL AVE. TO ALVERNON BLVD.

 

Scope: Widening and re-aligning the roadway from Campbell to Alvernon. Installing drainage culverts, storm drains and the construction of two new traffic signals. This project includes the construction of a new bridge at the Rillito River on the new alignment. Other work includes, curb, gutter, sidewalk, paving and landscaping.

 

· Contractor:  The Ashton Company, Inc.          · Bid Amount: $16,216,153.56

· Notice to Proceed: May 16, 2005                    · Estimated Completion Date: Summer 2007

 

Current Status:  Complete all Traffic Lanes open to traffic.

Project Activities:  Project is complete and accepted.

I-19 EAST FRONTAGE ROAD: CANOA ROAD TO CONTINENTAL:

 

Scope: The Project consists of furnishing all labor, materials, equipment and supervision necessary for roadway and drainage improvement described in the project plan.  The work consists of constructing and reconstructing a continuous 2-lane frontage road between the Canoa Interchange and the Continental Interchange.  The total length of East Frontage Road to be built under this project is approximately 4.6 miles.

 

· Contractor: Borderland Construction Co.         · Bid Amount: $15,000,000.00

· Notice to Proceed: June 23, 2009                    · Estimated Completion Date: Fall 2010

 

Current Status:  All lanes are open to the public. On August 3, 2009 contractor will be closing southbound I-19 off ramp for approximately 8 months.

 

Project Activities:  Contractor is working on retaining walls, removal of structures, clearing work, drainage pipes, and structures on the North of the project.

MICHIGAN STREET/PALO VERDE: PALO VERDE BUS PULL OUTS:

 

Scope:  Grade and repair Michigan Street at Palo Verde, and adding three additional pullouts on Palo Verde.

 

· Contractor:  KE&G Contracting                              · Bid Amount:  $314,000.00  

· Notice to proceed:  May 22, 2009                          · Estimated Completion Date:  July 2009

 

Current Status: Complete all Traffic Lanes open to traffic.

 

Projected Activities: Project is Complete and Accepted.

CAMPBELL AVENUE: SKYLINE & CAMINO LUZ:

 

Scope:  Widening Campbell just North of River Road at Camino Luz.  Work consists of drainage work, dirt work, paving, and striping.

 

· Contractor: Southern AZ Paving                            · Bid Amount:  $340,000.00  

· Notice to proceed:  June 2009                               · Estimated Completion Date: Fall 2009

 

Current Status:  Complete all Traffic Lanes open to traffic.

Current Activities: Project is complete and accepted.

CAMINO LOMA ALTA:

 

Scope:  Camino Loma Alta Roadway Realignment Project realigns Camino Loma Alta between Via Rancho Del Lago and Via Sedan Drive, totaling 0.93 miles of realignment through State Trust land.

 

· Contractor: Eagle Rock                                         · Bid Amount:  $990,929.00

· Notice to proceed: September 2009                     · Estimated Completion Date: Spring 2010

 

Current Status:  Contractor has mobilized and started construction.

Current Activities: Contractor is performing cleaning, drainage work, and earthwork.  No impact to traffic on Camino Loma Alta.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PERMIT:     PERMIT WORK IN PROGRESS

Note: In any given month, there are between 300 and 500 permits issued for work in the public right-of-way.  The permitted projects listed above are those permits of a longer duration that impact the traveling public on major roadways.
