The GIS dataset library is categorized into distinct categories which share common information types.

AbbreviationFull Name and Explanation
ControlRegistration Control datasets are the foundation from which we create new GIS data. They also function as the spatial anchors when importing data from outside sources. Spatial analysis of multiple datasets requires registration controls to produce accurate results.
Jur&DistsJurisdictions and Districts: Maintenance districts, political boundaries, and analysis zones comprise the majority of the datasets found in this category. The areas delineated vary in size from the five large supervisorial districts to several hundred smaller voter precincts.
MM-NonTransMan-made Features - Nontransportation: These datasets make up the largest and most diverse category. This category contains all of the man-made features that do not fall within the Transportation category.
MM-TransMan-made Features - Transportation: This category contains the datasets used to depict the many different forms of community mobility, ranging from streets to hiking trails.
Nat FeaturesNatural Features: Datasets representing the wide variety of natural features and environmentally sensitive areas found in Pima County are grouped together in the Natural Features category.
Non-PimaNon-Pima County datasets are those with features outside of Pima County, mostly in neighboring counties.
